Arrival & Mobility

By rail

Waren and Neustrelitz, as important gateways to the Müritz National Park, are connected to local and long-distance traffic. From Dresden, Berlin and Rostock you can reach both stations in the Mecklenburg Lake District directly with IC trains every two hours.

From Berlin, you can reach Neustrelitz by regional express train every hour. Every two hours there is a train between Neustrelitz and Rostock. The stations Kratzeburg and Waren (Müritz) are located on this route. Furthermore, a regional train runs from Neustrelitz to Mirow. Its stations Groß Quassow, Wesenberg, Weißer See and Zirtow-Leussow are all located on the edge of the Müritz National Park. This railroad line is operated by the Hanseatische Eisenbahn.

By bus

The cities of Neustrelitz and Waren (Müritz) are served by long-distance bus. Information about the regional bus lines can be obtained from the Mecklenburg-Vorpommersche Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVVG).

As part of the Müritz National Park Ticket offer, a bus route runs through the National Park. The buses travel partly on routes that are closed to cars. They operate daily from April 1 to October 1 between Waren (Müritz) and the Bolter Kanal, located in the south of the National Park on the Müritz Lake. Bicycles (and to a lesser extent e-bikes) are carried on the bus trailer for a fee. The National Park Ticket buses take you to the meeting points of the eventful guided tours of the National Park Authority. Timetables and guided tours are coordinated. Particularly attractive is the combination with a boat tour on the Müritz. The ships run regularly between Waren (Müritz), Klink, Röbel/Müritz and the Bolter Canal and also take bicycles.

Tip: Overnight guests in Klink, Rechlin, Röbel/Müritz and Waren (Müritz) can travel free of charge on the bus with a guest card from April 1, 2018. More at  www.mueritz-rundum.de.

Parking only in marked areas!

By car

Coming by car from the west, the National Park can be reached from the A 19 motorway from the Röbel/Müritz or Waren (Müritz) exits via the B 198 and B 192 federal roads. From the south, the B 96 connects Berlin and Neustrelitz. Coming from the east, the A 20 motorway offers the Friedland exit, from which it is possible to continue in the direction of Neustrelitz via the B 198. From the highway, a system of advance signs will guide you to the respective entrance areas of the national park.

Although the national park is large, there are only a few roads. Many of these routes are quite narrow and only partially developed. Some roads are not only bad to drive on, but also closed. For example, only a few authorized persons are allowed to drive on the routes between Speck and Boek and Pagelsee - Zartwitzer Kreuz. Since the summer of 2013, compliance with the authorized persons regulation has been ensured by three barriers. [More information, pdf 0.80 MB (in German)]
Therefore, it is more convenient to take your time and drive by car using the federal, state and county roads from one entrance area to another.

You can park your car at any of these locations. The parking lots are usually free of charge. Here you can get comprehensive information and, for example, start a cycling or hiking tour in the vicinity or also use the Müritz National Park ticket.

In the protected area itself, only limited parking is available on appropriately marked parking spaces. Outside of these parking spaces, parking on the roadside and on paths in the national park area is not permitted.
