Water touring in the Müritz National Park

14 percent of the national park area consists of water - home to many species of fish and waterfowl. What they all have in common is their sensitivity to disturbance, for example caused by boats. The louder and faster, the faster the animals flee - some never return. Therefore, boating is only allowed on some designated waterways.

There are two official water touring routes in the National Park.

Water touring is partly possible in the Müritz National Park. Some lakes and rivers in the area can be navigated by canoe, this applies in particular to the water hiking routes on the "Oberen Havel" and the "Alte Fahrt".

Strict restrictions to protect nature

For most other waters in the national park there are strict restrictions (e.g. Feisnecksee). Only rowing boats may be used there. The use of other watercrafts is prohibited here (among others stand up paddling and belly boats).

On all waters the use of motors (incl. electric motors!), as well as sailing and surfing is prohibited. Diving is also not permitted.

Individual lakes and the narrow strip of water on the eastern shore of the Müritz are completely closed to water sports to protect nature. The border of the national park on the Müritz is marked with yellow-red buoys.

Basically, before starting your tour, you should find out exactly which rules apply on the national park waters along the water touring routes.

Regulations for navigation on the water routes in the National Park


	Green buoys mark prescribed water routes.
	Yellow buoys indicate restricted areas.
	Camping only at official sites. Camping in the National Park is prohibited, even on and at the rest areas.
	Keep a proper distance from the shore and refrain from driving into reed beds and densely overgrown shore areas. Avoid driving over particularly shallow stretches of water or stands of aquatic plants. These biotopes in particular are home to many rare plant species and the habitat of animal species that are sensitive to disturbance. Avoid bird aggregations as far as possible.
	Don't leave anything behind. Help to keep the water and the banks clean. Waste belongs in the trash. Preferably use reusable packaging.
	There is a general ban on landing outside of designated rest and camping areas.

Organized group trips must be registered with the National Park Authority as events requiring a permit. The group size should not exceed 8 boats.
